It’s always hard to find that perfect summer read, or the thrilling movie you want to watch on a sweltering day, or the new tunes your ears are itching to hear for ‘evening-out’ car-rides.  You don’t exactly want to spend hours hunting down for any of these things—after all, it’s summer, right?  We want to be as lazy as the summer mood entails.  So, to make your life easier, I thought I would share a few recommendations.

READ: Summer at Tiffanya book I have yet to read but one that sounds really really fun.

READ: Relationships: a mess worth making: one that I am currently reading, and enjoying because of its simple application to real-life relationships, friendships, familial situations, etc.

WATCH: The Great Debaters with Denzel Washington.  This movie pleasantly surprised me.  It was shaped around history, passion, ethics, and triumph.  Yes, a bit predictable.  But, Denzel always makes these ‘heroic’ types of movies heart-warming and hope-filled.  Definitely worth checking out.

WATCH: Three Seasons.  Made in the late 90’s, this film won numerous awards and tells a tri-fold tale of individuals in Vietnam.  This movie was actually the first one to be made in Vietnam after the war was over.  The cinemaphotography is artistic and penetrating, while the character development really captures the essence of the movie.  Warning: don’t watch this when you are tired.  You have to read sub-titles.

LISTEN TO: Brooke Fraser.  She’s a young singer from New Zealand who has sung on some of the Hillsong United worship albums. Now she’s done a pop record. Right now you can grab it on iTunes for only $5.99. I bought four of her songs and love them: she reminds me of Sarah McLaughlin.  Sultry, alto voice with thoughtful lyrics, and relaxing piano melodies in the background.  Perfect for evenings’ out.
