Emily @ RVA
Dear Family and Friends,
I am excited to announce that a very new and exciting chapter of my
life is about to start…
God willing, my future Home, as of August 14, 2009, will be in the
Great Rift Valley of Kenya.
That’s right…I am moving to the continent of Africa!
POSITION
location & opportunity

RVA, a ministry of Africa Inland Mission International (“AIM”), is a large K-12 boarding school overlooking the Great Rift Valley in Kenya. It exists primarily to provide a quality educational experience and haven for children whose parents are serving God in their various ministries throughout Africa. For the 2009-2010 school term (August to July), RVA has accepted me to serve as a “Dorm Mother” to high-school girls. In this role, it will be my privilege to befriend, encourage, mentor, and disciple young ladies on my assigned dorm hall each day. While the girls are in classes, I will also fill other roles, such as assisting other staff in the music, sports, and local outreach programs. Though daily “on duty,” two breaks will be provided to RVA staff in December and April when the students are on school breaks. How I will use this time is yet to be decided, but there are many opportunities available through AIM’s various bases throughout East Africa. I am excited to establish new friendships during these times, and team up with other AIM missionaries who are serving in short and long term positions.
REASON
belief & action

Since my missions trip to Uganda in January, 2008, God has increased my sense of calling to return to Africa. You simply cannot erase that type of experience from the chalkboard of your life. My heart is not simply burdened for this empoverished nation, but also to partner with local Christians living there who are faithfully laying down their lives to serve. At RVA, I believe God has given me the opportunity to embrace a year of service alongside these fellow believers, and in doing so, spread His glory & love. I would also count it a privilege to partner with the other RVA dorm parents and staff in things such as administration, encouragement, writing, and music. With trusted counsel supporting this decision to go, I am excited to follow God’s call upon my life. Kenya does have a history of political unrest & violence, but I am trusting in my Father in heaven to protect and to guide each day. The Great Commission is the cause worthy of my whole life, and so it is with joy that I lean forward into His will!
SUPPORT
to bear & hold up
How can you come alongside me in this process?
The most important way is through Prayer.
The second way to help is practically, through fundraising.
For this 11 month assignment,
I will need to raise $18,000 total, with 75% upfront before August 13.
AIM handles this lump sum, and uses it to cover the 3-day orientation at AIM headquarters in NYC, visa fees, airfare, debriefing upon return, room & board while on the field, administrative costs, international medical insurance, transportation & other personal needs. As I desire to personally front a third of this cost, will you come alongside me & help me reach my total goal? Whether your support is financial or spiritual, I am thankful that He will use people such as yourself to participate in this exciting Gospel mission. At the end of the day, please know that I view your contributions as far more significant than simply helping me fulfill a lifelong dream. Your financial support will enable me to care for the RVA students whose parents are serving the spiritual and physical needs of the people groups throughout Africa. Thank you for considering to make this eternal investment on behalf of the RVA students who are maturing into the next generation of believers. I am humbled by your consideration to help meet my financial goal, and ultimately, I will stand amazed, but not surprised, by God’s power at work through both of our lives.
